Topic: Introduction to Music

Music has different definition. This is because of the importance we attach to it. Some say music is a universal language others say it is food for the soul. This is because the experience is the same all over the world and the way it affects our emotions.

Music is the art of creating, arranging and combining sounds together to please the ears.

Sacred Music

Secular Music

Popular Music

Art Music

Folk Music:- Is the music that is passed from one generation to the other. The original composer are not known e.g Moonlight songs, War songs, Traditional festival songs, game songs.

Sacred Music:- This is a religious music. Music used in worshipping God. For example: Gospel songs.

Secular Music:- Is the type of music used in entertaining and praising ourselves 

Popular music:- Is the type of music used to say by or musicians for entertainment e.g Juju music, Afro beats, Fuji, hip hop.

Art music:- This type of music is done by trained composers.

Uses of music 

Music is used for relaxation. 

Music is used for advertisement purposes.

Music is used to educate the society.

It is used for entertainment.

Music makes us happy.

TIE AND DYE Tie and dye is applying dye substance on a piece of cloth to create beautiful designs on it. Materials used for Tie dye 1. Cotton fabric 2. Raffia, ropes and strings 3. Dye chemical 4. Rubber gloves 5. Spoon 6. Long wooden stick 7. Nose mask 8. Salt 9. Big bowl Methods of tying 1. Pleating method 2. Clump method 3. Circular method 1. Pleating method: The cloth is folded in pleats and tied tightly together to avoid loosening. 2. Clump method: The cloth is folded with hard objects inside e.g. pebble or stone. 3. Circular method: The cloth is picked at the tip, spaced and tied neatly to bring out a circular design.
